The territories and states listed in this group are all within the Islamic
world, most of them were at some time under the Ottoman Empire rule. All of them
are Arabic speaking (with the exception of Turkey). Most of the territories were
for a short while under British or French protection and influence.
Stamps issued were mainly in Arabic design and in accordance to postal demands
on one hand. On the other hand an enormous amount of large stamps with no
relevance to the surroundings, aimed mainly at the philatelic market, were
issued (by the states comprising the United Arab Emirates and by Yemen).
