A Republic, located in southern central Asia. Mainly an agricultural country.
The state was created on August 15th, 1947 when the former British Indian Empire
was divided into two independent states (INDIA and Pakistan) and separate
dominions. In 1956 Pakistan was proclaimed the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,
consisting of two separate regions to the east and west of India. In 1971 the
eastern region became independent as the Republic of BANGLADESH. Former province
of BAHAWALPUR is incorporated in Pakistan of today.
First stamps issued in 1947. Many provisional 'PAKISTAN' hand-stamped overprints on
stamps of India, in various sizes and colors exist.
Indirect UPU membership from July 1st, 1876 under
British India, direct since November 10th, 1947.
On October 1989 rejoined the British Commonwealth (see GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.)).
