Area - 20,253 sq.km; Population - 1,930,000; Capital - Ljubljana
Republic, located in southeastern Europe.
Economy mainly based on agriculture, manufacturing ,mining and wood products.
Former one of the Yugoslav Federated Republics, located in the northwest of the country.
In 1919 Slovenia conjoined with SERBIA, BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, CROATIA (HRVATSKA),
DALMATIA and MONTENEGRO to form the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovens and stamps
were separately issued until 1920 (see YUGOSLAVIA).
During World War II, stamps were issued for use of the Italian (in 1941) and German (1943-45)
occupation forces see LUBIANA. The Italians name for the territory was Ljubljana
and the German name was Laibach.
In 1945 regional stamps for Slovenia were issued (see under Yugoslavia). The Slovenes succeeded in establishing their independence in 1991, since then reissued stamps.
