woodworking which are also exported.
Until 1917 an autonomous Grand Duchy of RUSSIA, which, after the Russian
Revolution became an independent republic. Since 1984 the ALAND ISLANDS, which
belong to Finland, have their own stamps issued. Stamps were also issued for the
territories of AUNUS (OLONETS) and EASTERN KARELIA which were occupied by Finland for
short periods of time.
First stamps issued in 1856. Indirect UPU membership under Russia since 1875,
direct since February 12th, 1918. Annual output about 45.
