A Republic, located on the southwestern coast of Africa, between Zaire and
Namibia. Economy mainly based on agriculture, with large deposits of oil and
minerals. Diamonds and iron are exported.
Formerly the most important Colony of PORTUGAL in Africa, an overseas province
since 1951 and independent from November 11th, 1975.
In 1920 PORTUGUESE CONGO became an integral part of Angola.
First stamps issued in 1870. Indirect UPU membership from 1877, direct since
March 3rd, 1977. Annual output about 40.
