An Independent State, group of about 700 islands in the West Indies, off the
coast of Florida, of which only 30 inhabited. Tourism is the main occupation and
industry, the Bahama's being one of the most well known resorts.
A former colony of GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.), internal self governing since 1964 and fully
independent since July 10th, 1973, within the British Commonwealth.
First stamps issued in 1859. Indirect UPU membership from July 1st, 1880,
direct since April 24th, 1974. Annual output about 35.
