Capital - Calabar
Located on the west coast of Africa in the Gulf of Guinea.
Formerly known as 'Oil Rivers', located on the west coast of Africa. This
territory became the protectorate of Niger Coast in 1893 belonging to the Royal
Niger Company. The British government took over in 1900, when incorporated into
the protectorate of SOUTHERN NIGERIA. Later on conjoined with LAGOS (1906) and
the entire former territory of the Royal Niger Company into the colonies of
Southern and NORTHERN NIGERIA. Stamps were issued from 1892 (first year as Oil
Rivers Protectorate) to 1898.
