Former British Protectorate, located in east Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean.
In 1903 the BRITISH EAST AFRICA Protectorate was administratively separated to
form British East Africa (present KENYA) and UGANDA, stamps appearing for both
territories as East Africa and Uganda Protectorates. From 1935 the three
territories of Kenya, Uganda and TANGANYIKA formed the East African Postal
Administration, stamps appearing under the name of Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika.
These states became independent one by one in the early 1960`s, still using the
joint stamps. In 1965, when Tanganyika and ZANZIBAR formed TANZANIA, the name
changed into Kenya Uganda Tanzania, variously arranged. This administration
ceased in 1977. Stamp issuing between 1903-1976.
