Area - 11,094 sq.km; Capital - Khust
Formerly the most eastern area of SLOVAKIA, also known as Ruthenia. In
March 1939 it declared its independence as Carpathian-Ukraine, but was occupied
the very next day by Hungary. One stamp was issued which was valid for several
hours. At the end of World War II it was reclaimed by Czechoslovakia, however
was incorporated into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic as Trans-
Carpathian Ukraine. Stamps for Trans-Carpathian Ukraine were issued between
1944-1945.
