Information
AUSTRIA was one of the European powers who maintained foreign Post Offices
within the former Turkish Empire, also known as the Levant. These Post Offices
existed for civilian purposes between 1885-1923 when the last foreign Post
Office on territory of TURKEY was closed under the Lausanne Treaty. However, the
term 'LEVANT' is still in use when referring to territories under former Turkish
Empire rule. Stamps for the Austrian Post Offices were issued between 1867-1908.
