A Kingdom, located in southwest Europe, occupies most of the Iberian Peninsula.
Economy based on agriculture, industry and tourism. Machinery, textiles,
chemicals, fruits and vegetables are exported.
Formerly a nation of explorers and navigators. A Kingdom with two short periods
of Republic regime (between 1873-74 and 1931-36). The CANARY ISLANDS are an
integral part of it. The following colonies were formerly under Spanish
administration: SPANISH MOROCCO, SPANISH SAHARA, SPANISH GUINEA which was
divided into Spanish overseas provinces of RIO MUNI and FERNANDO POO. All the
above are no longer linked to Spain.
First stamps issued in 1850. Direct UPU membership since July 1st, 1875. Annual
output about 65.
