Capital - Lvov
A former Republic, located in southwestern Russia, incorporating parts of
Galicia and Bucovina. Formerly part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and
independent for a short while following the brake up of the Empire. In 1919
merged with UKRAINE. Between the two World Wars (1918-1939) most of the area was
under administration of POLAND. Stamp issuing between 1918-1919, most of them
overprints on stamps of AUSTRIA.
In 1919 stamps were also issued for Bucovina, which was occupied by ROMANIA.
