An Independent State, located in Southeast Asia, between Thailand and Vietnam.

Formerly a protectorate of FRANCE, conjoined into INDO-CHINA in 1887. In 1949, when
Indo-China was separated into the states of VIETNAM, LAOS and Cambodia, the last
was established as a Kingdom within the French Union. At the Geneva conference
of 1954 it was declared fully independent and disconnected its French ties in
1955. In 1970 a military group took over the government and established the
KHMER REPUBLIC. This lasted until 1975, followed by a short restoration of the
Kingdom and a second revolt by the Khmer Rouge which installed a new government
and renamed the state as KAMPUCHEA. From 1989 'Cambodia' is again the official
name.
Stamp issuing between 1951-1971, and again from 1989. Several indirect UPU
memberships, direct from December 21st, 1951. Annual output about 120.
