A Socialist Republic, located in Southeast Asia, west of the South China Sea.
Minerals, coal and agricultural products are exported.
Formerly a part of INDO-CHINA until 1945 when the Democratic Republic of Vietnam
was proclaimed by the Viet-Minh Nationalists, consisting of former territories
of ANNAM AND TONKIN and COCHIN-CHINA. In 1946 FRANCE recognized it as a free
state within Indo-China. In 1949 Indo-China was divided into CAMBODIA, LAOS and
Vietnam. In 1954 Vietnam was divided into VIETNAM, North and VIETNAM, South.
In 1975, after a long war, South Vietnam surrendered and in
1976 the two Vietnams were reunited as a Socialist Republic.
First stamps issued in 1945 (for issues between 1946 to 1954 see

1976. Annual output about 120.
