A former Protectorate of FRANCE, one of the Comoro Islands, between Madagascar and
the east coast of Africa, in the Indian ocean. The protectorate incorporated
into MADAGASCAR (MALAGASY) in 1908 together with the other Comoro Islands -
GRAND COMORE, MAYOTTE and MOHELI - as 'Province de Mayotte et depenendances'
and stamps of Madagascar came into use. In 1912 became a colony.
The Comoros broke away from Madagascar in 1950 and in 1975 declared independent
as the Republic of the COMORO ISLANDS (not including Mayotte).
