A Republic, located in central west Africa, north of the Equator. Economy based
on export of diamonds, timber and coffee.
Formerly the French colony of UBANGI-SHARI which in 1910, conjoined with
MIDDLE CONGO, GABON and CHAD (TCHAD) to form FRENCH EQUATORIAL AFRICA.
In 1958 voted to become an autonomous republic within the Community of FRANCE
and fully Independent Republic since August 13th, 1960.
First stamps issued in 1959. Direct UPU membership since June 28th, 1961. Annual
output about 160.
