Formerly a Colony of FRANCE which became part of DAHOMEY in 1899. Gained its
independence on August 1st, 1960, and was renamed as People's Republic of Benin
in 1975.
First stamps issued in 1892 as a French colony, and in 1975 as Benin of today.
Direct UPU membership from April 27th, 1961. Annual output about 120.
