Area - 10.5 sq.km
A former Italian colony, the most eastern of the Dodecanese islands, close to
the Turkish coast. From 1915 to 1921 occupied by Naval forces of FRANCE, handed
over to ITALY under treaties of Sevres and Lausanne in same year and
incorporated into the Italian DODECANESE ISLANDS. Stamps issuing between
1920-1932. For later issues see MIDDLE EAST FORCES. Today part of GREECE (HELLAS),
renamed as Megista, Karistos.
