Information
Morocco's strategically position as a gateway to Northern Africa made it a target
for several European powers who were looking for a foot-hold in north Africa.
Among them was the FRANCE who kept Post Offices in MOROCCO from 1863 using
French stamps. In 1891 French stamps were surcharged with Spanish currency.
Later on several overprints and surcharges continued until 1912, when the French
Zone of Morocco came under French Protection as French Morocco.
