A Self Governing State, island in the West Indies, southeast of Puerto Rico.
Economy based on salt production, tourism and fishing.
Formerly one of the islands comprising the British associated state of
ST.CHRISTOPHER-NEVIS-ANGUILLA, part of the LEEWARD ISLANDS. In 1967 Anguilla
departed from the federation and declared itself as an independent state,
an act which was unrecognized by Great Britain. In 1971 it became a colony
of GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.), since 1976 self governing.
