economy is mainly based on mining, tourism and agriculture.
A former colony of GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.), which administrated the two dependencies of
CAYMAN ISLANDS and the TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Self government since 1944
and independent since August 6th, 1962, as a member of the British Commonwealth.
First stamps issued in 1860. Indirect UPU membership since July 1st, 1877,
direct from August 29th, 1963. Annual output about 15.
