A Self Governing Colony of GREAT BRITAIN (U.K.), group of about 150 small islands
in the Atlantic ocean, 1,062 km east of North Carolina, of which only 20 are
inhabited. Tourism is the almost sole occupation and industry.
A British crown colony, with representative government from 1968.
In 1848 several unauthorized stamps were issued by a local postmaster for local
use, with the inscription 'HAMILTON BERMUDA'. These stamps are of the rarest and
high-valued in the world. First authorized stamps issued in 1865. Indirect UPU
membership from April 1st, 1877. Annual output about 25.
