A former British Crown Colony, the northern part of the island of Borneo, in the
Malay archipelago. A British protectorate under the administration of British
North Borneo Company from 1881 until 1941, when it was occupied by the Japanese
during World War II. In 1946 it became a British colony, together with the
island of LABUAN. In 1963 became self governing under the name of SABAH and in
same year joined into MALAYSIA as one of its states. Stamp issuing between
1883-1963.
